Utilities

Electricity - Supplied and distributed by Virginia Power and Southside Electric Cooperative.

Water - Water for both industrial and residential use is provided by privately owned wells.

Sewerage - The Amelia Courthouse Sanitary District provides sewerage service. Average daily use is 100,000 gallons. Maximum daily treatment capacity is 300,000 gallons. Sewerage for residential and indusrial activities outside the Sanitary District is treated by individual septic systems.

Solid Waste - The Chambers Waste Systems of Virginia accepts solid, non-hazardous waste at its Maplewood Recycling and Waste Disposal Facility. The licensed landfill accepts waste from Virginia and surrounding states and includes a recycling bin for scrap metal and appliances. The Chambers also operates and maintains five remote collection and recycling sites for the use of the citizens.
